Nigerian-American Woman Alleges Life-Threatening Incident During Traditional Wedding in Nigeria

A Nigerian-American woman recently shared a chilling account online, accusing her ex-husband’s family of endangering her life during a visit to Nigeria for their traditional wedding ceremony.

In a now-viral video, she explained that she had legally married her husband in the U.S. and assisted with his immigration process. However, when she traveled to Ibadan—her husband’s hometown—to complete the traditional rites, the situation took a disturbing turn.

Despite the family’s wealth and ownership of car dealerships, they refused to provide her with a reliable vehicle. After persistent requests, she was given an old 2010 Toyota RAV4 that immediately felt unsafe.

While traveling to a radio interview in Ibadan, the car broke down on a highway under tense circumstances, with military personnel warning about kidnappings in the area. Upon inspection, a mechanic discovered serious issues: no brake fluid, a hole in the gas tank, and a dry coolant system. The mechanic warned the car could have exploded if driven further.

Attempts to contact her husband and his family were ignored. Their later explanation—that they only checked if the car started—raised suspicion, especially considering their business in the auto industry.

She also alleged that her husband stood to benefit from her potential death by gaining eligibility for a green card or U.S. citizenship as a widower.

Adding to the distress, the woman claimed her ex-husband tried to make her sign a gag order to silence her, which she refused.

“I was expected to stay quiet,” she stated, “but this story needs to be heard.”
