by A deeply disturbing case of matricide has shaken Jigawa State, as police confirm the arrest of 30-year-old Hussaini Abubakar for the brutal murder of his biological mother, 75-year-old Dahara Mu’azu, in Dantanoma Quarters, Gumel LGA.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of Sunday, June 29, 2025, when Abubakar allegedly attacked his elderly mother with mud blocks, striking her repeatedly in the head. She was rushed to Gumel General Hospital, where she sadly passed away the following day, Monday, June 30.
In an official statement on Tuesday, July 1, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, confirmed the arrest of the suspect. According to the police, the scene was horrific—the woman was found in a pool of blood with severe head injuries.
The suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with police. Authorities say he will be charged in court following a thorough investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, condemned the act as “inhuman, barbaric, and utterly reprehensible“, ordering the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to handle the case with urgency.
Police also used the opportunity to urge communities to report early signs of mental health struggles or domestic violence, noting that early intervention could prevent such tragic outcomes.
The Jigawa Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to justice, law, and the protection of lives across the state.
