Amaarae pointed out that the widespread financial success tied to a particular Afrobeats sound has caused some artists to play it safe. “Afrobeats needs to evolve in a direction that’s fearless,” she explained. “Artists have made so much money from a certain type of sound that they’re afraid to step out of the boundaries.”
