Michael Madsen’s Cause of Death Revealed: Heart Failure Linked to Heart Disease and Alcoholism

Actor Michael Madsen, known for his longtime collaborations with Quentin Tarantino, passed away at 67 due to heart failure, with heart disease and alcoholism listed as contributing factors, according to his cardiologist, who spoke to NBC4 Los Angeles.

Madsen was found unresponsive at his Malibu home on July 3 and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed the death was from natural causes, with no foul play suspected.

In the aftermath, Madsen’s sister, actress Virginia Madsen, shared a heartfelt tribute, emphasizing that the family mourns not just a public figure but a beloved brother with a “ferocious heart.” She described him as “thunder and velvet,” “mischief wrapped in tenderness,” and “a poet disguised as an outlaw.” Reflecting on his vibrant life, she added, “I’ll miss our inside jokes, the sudden laughter, the sound of him… I miss my big brother.”

Michael Madsen’s struggles with alcohol were public, including a 2019 car crash where he was found to have alcohol in his system, leading to a brief jail sentence and probation.

In a personal matter, Madsen filed for divorce in September from his wife of 28 years, DeAnna, citing tragic circumstances involving their late son Hudson. He later retracted those claims publicly, expressing love for his wife and children and clarifying she was not responsible for their son’s death.

Madsen leaves behind seven children from different relationships and a legacy as a bold, complex actor beloved by many.
